9:30 – 10:30 AM Insurance Issues Arising From 9/11 Terrorist Attacks
More than 20 years later, the insurance issues arising from the 9/11 terrorist attack provide valuable lessons for all property insurance professionals. This presentation tells the story of Dallas attorney Steven Badger’s decade-long pursuit of the insurance industry’s $5 billion subrogation action against those alleged to be responsible for the attack and the resulting destruction of the World Trade Center.  This fascinating presentation discusses all the insurance issues implicated by the attack, including the legendary “one-or-two-occurrence” dispute and various reinsurance disputes. Steven weaves these issues into his story of the events leading up to the attack that provided the basis for the industry’s subrogation action.  This historically significant presentation is not to be missed.

10:45 – 11:30 AM Emerging Trends in Cyber Coverage
In little more than a decade, insurance coverage for cyber risk has evolved from an adjunct product to a core coverage for nearly every business type. The magnitude and nature of the cyber risks businesses face, and costs and types of the coverage available for them, have similarly expanded. This session highlights the ever-evolving world of cyber risk and the impacts of growing cyber regulation on insurers and reinsurers. The session will also discuss the evolution of cyber policies to meet the changing risks; the current trends in first- and third-party coverage; the changing tactics employed by threat actors; and the growing challenge of disputes related to business interruption loss.

1:30 – 2:15 PM   Update From The Trenches – Strategies To Mitigate Fraud and Other Abuses In CAT Claims
Reinsurer exposure because of weather-related CAT claims has increased dramatically in recent years. One reason for this increase is the growth and maturation of the “storm chaser” industry, including contractors, public adjusters, and policyholder attorneys who all make a living injecting themselves into the CAT claims process. While some in this industry are reasonable professionals who want to truly help the insured, others are not.  As a result, fraud and other abuses in the claims process have become far too common.  This session will explore policy form changes, improved underwriting standards, and claims handling strategies that can be employed to address improper conduct while still ensuring fair compensation for the policyholder.
